Most of this municipality (which is the largest in the state) is populated by cacti; although during the rainy season it turns green again to the point of being unrecognizable and becomes so green that it doesn't seem like you are crossing the largest desert in North America; of course, this happens there every 10 or 12 years when the summer rains are abundant.
In Villa Ahumada, desert cuisine is offered wrapped in delicious flour tortillas; in burritos made by local ladies with stews made with dehydrated chiles and the good meat of Chihuahua cattle; the grilled meats and cheeses made in this land of infinite horizons, located in the middle of the Chihuahuan Desert, are highly appreciated by visitors. So are the stuffed chiles, the sauces made with red and overripe chiles and the beef stews served in local restaurants. The desserts are made with walnuts, apples and honey.
