The heart of the town
The San José parish is one of the most iconic places in Parral. Built between 1673 and 1686, its walls feature an elegant diamond decoration. In the second section of the facade, the niche with the image of San José stands out. Inside, there are baroque altarpieces from the 18th century. Here lie the remains of Don Juan Rangel de Biezma, the founder of this town. Although the exact date of its foundation is unknown, it is known that the square already existed in 1633 when the first parish was built, where the famous sundial is located. Since its foundation, the square has had a beautiful kiosk and, until recently, a statue of Juan Rangel de Biezma, the city's founder, immortalized kneeling to test the metals of the land. However, that statue was recently relocated to the remodeled Plaza de la Identidad.
