Hidalgo Theater

Arrival of the Franciscans in 1641, building the convent located in what was then called "Barrio de Triana" now Av. Independencia and adjacent streets, began to build an annex Temple which could be blessed and dedicated in custody to San Antonio de Parral in 1699, establishing the oldest custody of San Antonio de Parral, in the year 1714.

Upon the arrival of the French intervention, it was desecrated and used as a military barracks. Later, with the new reform laws, the Central Government ordered that it be converted into a boys' school, functioning as a school until the end of 1872.

Transformed by the architect Amérigo Federico Rouvier into an elegant theater and the superb and monumental electrical installation was in charge of Eng. Bean Hamsen and an artistic curtain, the work of the painter Mendoza, it was inaugurated on August 25, 1906, and considered one of the best in the state, starting with a ceremony, in which Mr. Don Enrique C. Creel, Governor of the State, was present.

Nowadays, it houses the Franklin Library, a Masonic temple, and still serves its original function as a theater. It is much in demand for social events and plays or musicals, and is now an open-air theater. Open every day, free of charge .
