Some History
Mining farm that traces its history back to colonial times. In 1631 rich veins were discovered
silver. The La Negrita mine brought fame to the area and miners came from various latitudes. In 1666 La Palmilla was discovered, which Pedro Alvarado inherited from his father in 1899. Parral became a prosperous town with magnificent buildings. During the Mexican Revolution, it was
strategic point for the powerful Northern Division commanded by General Francisco
Town.
Local culture
Food
The traditional cuisine of the Barrancas is linked to the Rarámuri culture. The best runners in the world eat Pinole during their treks through the mountains or during their competitions; corn toasted and ground in a metate. It is mixed with water and becomes a highly energetic drink.
Clothing
Girls learn from their mothers how to make their own clothes. They sew their pleated skirts by hand from colorful fabrics. Blouses have wide sleeves with pleats extending to the chest and back. Men's and boys' shirts have the same design, but they use plain fabrics.
Tradition and customs
The native cultures of the Sierra de Chihuahua have lived in the beautiful ravines for centuries. With the arrival of the Jesuits, a religious syncretism was formed with evangelization where their traditions were incorporated. Holy Week is a living example of this. Experience it!
