Some History

Its original name was Our Lady of Guadalupe de los Mansos del Paso del Norte. It was founded on December 8, 1659 by Fray García de San Francisco.

The Guadalupe mission was located at "El Paso" usually used to cross the Rio Grande to the north.

Local culture

Food

The burrito is the most representative dish of this dynamic border city. A delicious flour tortilla filled with the stew of your choice and a spread of finely ground refried beans, whether beef, pork or chicken, in red, green or tomato chile sauces. That's Juarez.

Tradition and customs

Experience a border town where its inhabitants feel they are guardians of the traditions and customs of the entire country. Border cuisine is a fusion that evokes the traditional cuisine of all of Mexico, recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage site.

Clothing

City folk have adopted the two-piece suit for business appointments or work. In industry, almost all industries provide uniforms. On days off, polo shirts and jeans are everyone's favorites.

Religion

The old town of Paso del Norte, now Ciudad Juárez, was dedicated to the Virgin of Guadalupe from its foundation. In the atrium of the old Mission next to the cathedral, there are dances of matachines, antojitos fair and musicians gather to play the mañanitas to the Virgin.

Cultural heritage

The cultural manifestations in this border area incorporate the best of both sides of the border, Ciudad Juárez and El Paso, TX., are cities that participate in all areas of human endeavor. Regional Mexican cuisine is present on both sides of the border, musical tastes and art exhibitions are equally shared, displayed in the
Museums of the Revolution and Chamizal, in the Casa de Juan Gabriel and in La Rodadora.
